ADD COLBERT-VMAS: On reflection, there’s something fishy about this whole thing. Has Colbert’s audience been “Daft Punk’d,” as Deadline Hollywood put it? Consider that MTV and Comedy Central, which airs The Colbert Report, are both Viacom-owned. Then check out this note to Colbert from Van Toffler, which the host shared on last night’s show, subsequently posted by EW.com. Reading between the line, we strongly suspect Toffler is in on the joke. We suspect the whole thing is part of a coordinated effort by Viacom to get TWC to cave by ramping up the anticipation for the VMAs to a fever pitch. Very clever, boys. (8/7a)
