THE TEENS, THEY HAVE CHOSEN: 150 million votes were cast, the results were tallied and once again we've proven that representative democracy is the greatest system in the world. SYCO/Columbia’s One Direction and Hollywood’s Selena Gomez and Demi Lovato were among the big winners at last night’s Teen Choice Awards on FOX, in an event that also saw tearful tributes to the late Cory Monteith by his ex-girlfriend and Glee co-star Lea Michele and other cast members. 1D earned surfboards for Choice Music Group, Summer Tour, Choice Single: Group (“Live while We’re Young”) and Love Song (“Little Things”). Lovato was named Female Artist and won for Choice Single: Female (“Heart Attack”). Gomez nabbed Summer Music Star: Female, Breakup Song ("Come and Get It") and the coveted Female Hottie laurel (overcoming a challenging field that included Miley Cyrus, Megan Fox, Mila Kunis and Lovato). RCA’s Cyrus wasn’t shut out, however; in addition to being declared Style Icon, she nabbed a board for Summer Song (“We Can’t Stop”). Fueled By Ramen’s Paramore was dubbed Choice Rock Group, Bruno Mars R&B Artist and Summer Music Star: Male, SYCO/Columbia’s Emblem3 scored Breakout Group and Ed Sheeran won Breakout Artist. In non-music categories, the victors included the excellent The Perks of Being a Wallflower (Choice Movie: Drama and Movie Actor: Drama for star Logan Lerman) and the charming Pitch Perfect (for Movie: Comedy and stars Rebel Wilson and Skylar Astin). For a complete list of winners go here. In other news, we’ve never felt so fucking old. (8/12a)
