VMA sales

iTUNES OVER THE MOON: The post-VMA boost is kicking in for several key performers on last night's extravaganza. In addition to her hit "We Can't Stop," which remains at #5, Miley Cyrus' new one, "Wrecking Ball," has jumped to #2 on the iTunes singles chart. Lady Gaga's "Applause" is at #3 following her impressive quick-change show opener; Macklemore's "Same Love" re-enters the Top 10 and shoots to #7 after the award-winning song's stellar VMA rendition; and Drake, who gave the first-ever perf of his new one, is at #10. Of course, Katy Perry couldn't go higher than #1, where she remains, while Robin Thicke and One Direction remain strong at #4 and #15, respectively. On the album side, Bruno Mars hits #5 after the blockbuster "Gorilla" performance (and that song is now a #19 single), but two notable developments are outside the Top 10: Kanye West moving up to #12 and your old pals NSYNC vaulting to #18 with their Greatest Hits. Oh, and the big Q4 albums from Katy and Miley are now both available for pre-order. Thank you, Brooklyn! (8/26a)
