THEY CAN'T STOP: Everyone's talking about the Miley Cyrus VMA perf. In fact, everyone's talking about how much people are talking about it. CNET reports that the controversial, sexually overt mash-up of "We Can't Stop" and "Blurred Lines" prompted more than 306k tweets PER MINUTE when it aired and inspired some 4.5 million mentions over the course of the evening. Compare that to 2.9m mentions for Justin Timberlake and 1.9m for Lady Gaga (which is still a helluva lot of mentions). And that's just from the East Coast airing (West Coast data is pending). Then there's the additional "meme" action (#StayStrongBillyRayCyrus, Beetlejuice photoshopped in as Robin Thicke and more). Then consider the iTunes action the star has enjoyed since the shw, with two tracks in the Top 5 and a big lead in album pre-orders (she's now #4 on the album chart). Want a career boost? Getting a "nude" costume and a foam finger is starting to sound like a pretty good strategy. (8/26p)
