Legacy having frontline success

THEY WANT TO TAKE IT HIGHER: Sony Legacy, known for painstakinglycompiled and beautifully designed catalog pieces like the Bob Dylan Bootleg series and the just-released Sly and the Family Stone box set Higher, has quietly but effectively entered the frontline business with some still-vital heritage artists. The Adam Block-led label had one of its highest-charting new releases this week in Earth, Wind & Fire’s Now, Then & Forever, which debuted at #11 on 27k, boosted by well-timed performances on America’s Got Talent, Ellen and CBS Sunday Morning. Willie Nelson’s upcoming duets album For All the Girls could do even better first-week numbers with a big boost from QVC, which is Willie’s turf as much as his beloved Hill Country. So maybe you can have it both ways. (9/20a)
