Epic’s Number Ones collection leads the way, with a total of 333k, just enough to top Columbia Records soul man Maxwell’s BLACKsummers’night, his first album in eight years, which bows at #2, with a robust 311k, a real triumph for Steve Barnett and his label team.
The other Jackson titles in the Top 10 include Thriller (#3), Essential (#5), Off the Wall (#7) and Bad (#8), with Ultimate Collection (#13), HIStory Greatest Hits Vol. 1 (#28), Invincible (#41) and HIStory—Past Present & Future (#43) all scoring in the Top 50.
Thriller is up 32%, Essential 9%, Off the Wall 104%, Bad 321% and Dangerous 160%, while Jackson 5’s Ultimate Collection, HIStory Greatest Hits, Vol. 1, Invincible and History—Past, Present & Future all enter the Top 50 for the first time.
Disney’s Hannah Montana 3 soundtrack to the TV show bows at #4 and Hopeless’ indie-emo-rockers All Time Low debuts at #9 alongside holdovers such as Sony Music’s Now 31 and Interscope’s Black Eyes Peas (#10).
Thanks to the late superstar, Sony Music nabs seven of the Top 10.
Other chart newcomers include Interscope party rappers LMFAO (#42), Metal Blade’s Job for a Cowboy (#46) and a re-entry for Big Machine’s self-titled Taylor Swift debut.
Hitting the streets this week are the new one from 19/RCA/RMG’s Daughtry, as well as Third Man’s The Dead Weather, Capitol’s Twista and Kedar/Fontana’s Joe. The following week (7/21), look for 19/Jive/JLG’s Jordin Sparks and Hollywood’s Demi Lovato.
