ELECTRONIC ARTS FUSES NEW MUSIC WITH GOLF, HOOPS

Dave Matthews Band is in Eye of Tiger, as New Hip-Hop Drives NBA 06
A new track from Dave Matthews Band will “headline” Electronic Arts’ new Tiger Woods PGA Tour 06, the company announced today.

The DMB track, “Stand Up (for It)” will be featured in the new game alongside electronic music from The Supreme Beings of Leisure, Thievery Corp. and David Holmes. The soundtrack is a part of EA’s “Sports Trax” music initiative, debuted in 2001, which has increased the musical emphasis in EA sports titles.

“The sound of golf is not an easy one to define, but with Dave Matthews Band, we’ve found the perfect anthem for Tiger Woods PGA Tour 06,” said EA Worldwide Executive of Music and Music Marketing Steve Schnur. “In this years game, we are delivering a score that helps bring the player deeper into the experience.”

Remarked Dave Matthews, “This is the first time we’ve had a song in a videogame, but it seems appropriate because we’re all fans of Tiger and EA. When we were recording ‘Stand Up’ in the studio, everyone had this reaction that it reminded them of sports. So I think it was the only song that would really be right for the game.”

In other EA news, the company has unveiled the 16 hip-hop tracks that make up the in-game music for upcoming basketball release NBA Live 06. According to the company, The soundtrack focuses on “the new sound of hip-hop,” with an emphasis on upbeat, uptempo songs.

Said Schnur of this title, which will be available in the fall, “With its rock, indie and Latin influences, the music in NBA Live 06 is an unparalleled collection of songs that demonstrate the new sound of hip hop. This is the new sound of basketball.”

The soundtrack includes several exclusive cuts, including “We Got Next” by Bishop Lamont featuring Chevy Jones, “Grind Time” by Chamillionaire, “Deportes EA” by N.O.R.E. featuring GemStar and Big Mato, “Elementary” by Spider Loc and “Mil Cosas” by Tego Calderon.

The rest of the tracks are: “God of Rap” by Afu-Ra, “My Style” by Black Eyed Peas, “Don’t Stop” by Chali 2na featuring Anthony Hamilton, “Remember the Name” by Fort Minor, “Streetz Melting” by Jae Millz, “In tha House” by Jurassic 5, “Tilted” by Lupe Fiasco, “Bucky Done” by M.I.A., “For the Nasty” by Q-Tip featuring Busta Rhymes, “Like Dat” by Stat Quo and “Let’s Move” by The Perceptionists.
