"It’s a great company with an amazing tradition, but young in terms of the music, people and philosophy. I have a lot of respect for Andy Slater, who I know from back when he was managing Warren Zevon and working with Lenny Kravitz."
——John Boulos, on being named new Capitol Records head of promotion

JOHN BOULOS NEW
POWER AT TOWER

Veteran Promo Exec, Who Just Left WB, Steps In For Hubbert as Capitol Records' Head of Promotion
The Brooklyn boy is coming to Hollywood.

Veteran promo exec John Boulos, most recently Sr. VP Promotion at Warner Bros. Records, will join Andy Slater’s Capitol Records team as head of promotion. He will take office on April 19.

"I’m pretty excited," said the longtime promo exec, who started out doing local and club promotion for London Records in 1977. "It’s a great company with an amazing tradition, but young in terms of the music, people and philosophy. I have a lot of respect for Andy Slater, who I know from back when he was managing Warren Zevon and working with Lenny Kravitz. And I used to torture Mark DiDia when he was in radio. He’d play every stiff I gave him. I think Slater has done an amazing job with A&R and bringing in executive talent. Especially this latest move."

Boulos will replaces Dan Hubbert, who left his post earlier this week.

Boulos was at Warner Bros. from 1998 to earlier this year. He was also head of promotion at Epic Records from ’96-98 and at Virgin Records from ’88-96. Before joining the promo department at PolyGram '86-87, he worked for Phil Quartararo at Island Records in the mid-’80s after Phil Q originally hired him as a local at RCA in the early ’80s.

Boulos, who currently lives in Westchester, will eventually move into the label offices in the Hollywood Tower. "What difference does it make if I’m in Buffalo or L.A.?" he asks, we think, rhetorically. "I’ll just do the same thing I’ve always done."
