And speaking of God, it’s Universal recording artists Godsmack and their new album we’re talking about: According to early reports from national accounts, Faceless is on track to sell upwards of 300k in its first week, meaning it has more than a prayer of turning up at #1 on next week’s chart.
The number of faithful willing to pay the tithe for this album is very much in line with the band’s last album, 2000’s Awake, which sold 260k in its first week.
Also hitting the streets yesterday was Ginuwine’s The Senior (Epic), which appears headed for a first week of 130k-140k. That kind of showing will put the album safely in the Top 10, we must confess.
And while she’s not the daughter of a preacher-man, daddy sure could sing that gospel music. We’re referring, of course, to Lisa Marie Presley, whose much-anticipated To Whom It May Concern (Capitol) also streeted yesterday. Early reports indicate it should come in at over 100k.
We’re not ones to pontificate, but retailers are noting that the arrival of the new Harry Potter DVD in stores Friday could give audio titles a boost thanks to increased foot traffc, though such a bump would likely affect upper-demo projects (such as Lisa Marie) more than others, since it will mostly be parents padding around the aisles while picking up the Potter for the kids.
Unfortunately, Eric Sermon had no comment for this story. Peace be with you.
