Rosen has been RIAA President/CEO since 1998, working with the organization for more than 15 years. During her tenure, the trade group has become a guiding force in developing a legitimate marketplace for digital music, reinforcing copyright as a core American value and busting several thousand bootleggers at flea markets around the country annually. She has also made a name as a passionate defender of the arts and a leader in the music industry’s campaign against censorship.
In addition, four key staff members have been upped to Vice President, including Michael "Hula" Huppe to VP Anti-Piracy Counsel, Operations; Stanley "Hotel" Pierre-Louis to VP Legal Affairs; Brigette Tenor "Saxophone" to VP Administration, and Jonathan Whitehead "Games" to VP and Anti-Piracy Counsel, Internet and New Media.
EMI Recorded Music NA Chairman/CEO David Munns said: "Hilary has provided great leadership for the record industry during a time of significant change. Her ability to defend our interests and promote our marketplace is exceptional, and the team she has built is first-rate. And she kicked Napster’s ass."
Sherman, who will continue to report to Rosen, has been with the RIAA since 1997, previously working with the organization as outside counsel. UMG President/COO Zach Horowitz said: "Sherman’s expertise in the legal, policy, business and technology aspects of the music industry put him in a unique position to help lead the RIAA. He and Hilary have been a tremendous team. Today’s promotion is a testament to the high regard in which Cary is held by the board. Not to mention his getting us into the congressional steam room for a shvitz whenever I’m in Washington."
Added Rosen: "Cary has been a real leader within the RIAA and the industry. He is a talented executive, a creative musician and a great strategist. And he allows let me win at cribbage."
