TNN GETS DUSTED OFF,
GOES UPSCALE

Just like Marie Osmond did for her sweet 16, The Nashville Network is getting a makeover. The country music network is changing its name to The National Network and changing its programming to entice a younger and more diverse audience.

TNN is poised to add off-network comedies and dramas, develop original series and movies and expand its sports and outdoor franchises. The network's management will now be based in New York, with some programming and production operations remaining in Nashville.

Herb Scannell will be at the helm of the rebranded TNN. Scannell is currently president of Nickelodeon and TV Land.

Said MTV Networks Chairman Tom Freston: "One of MTV's top priorities is to evolve TNN into a strongly branded, top ten cable entertainment network and, as of today, we're on our way. Herb Scannell programs the #1 cable network in the country, Nickelodeon, and has made TV Land one of the fastest-growing new networks. I have the ultimate confidence that Herb will be able to use his great creative abilities and knowledge of the business to make TNN a major player."

Said Scannell: "I look mighty good in Wranglers and a Stetson, don't I? Anyone know where can I get a good deal on Ropers?"
