THE "HEY BUDDY" SYSTEM

A Peek at What You'll See on Next Week's Mediabase Charts

Hey, Buddy! Why sit around wondering what next week’s Mediabase charts will look like when we can give you a snapshot of three key formats right now? That’s because you’re our guy, buddy. Really. Love you. Mean it.

TOP 40
Star Trak/Interscope’s Robin Thicke still has a 2000x lead with “Blurred Lines”; this week the new challenger at #2 is Maroon 5’s “Love Somebody” (A&M/Octone). Capitol’s Capital Cities will enter the Top 10 with their smash “Safe And Sound.” Meanwhile, the label’s Katy Perry will “Roar” onto the chart with over 5000x in the track’s first week and debut at a staggering #15. Interscope’s Lady Gaga also will have a strong #27 debut with her latest, “Applause.” PRMD/Island/IDJ’s Avicii gets the magical 1000x gain with “Wake Me Up,” as that one zooms to #28. Be on the lookout for Lorde’s “Royals” (Lava/Republic) as it gets its entry into Pop, up 500x in its first week of airplay.

RHYTHMIC
Jay Z’s “Holy Grail” (Roc-a-Fella/Roc Nation) vaults into the Top 5, and will be up over 600 spins. Drake’s “Hold On We’re Going Home” (YM/CM/Republic) skyrockets into the Top 20 and will be up over 800 spins! RCA’s Chris Brown and Miley Cyrus and Def Jam/IDJ’s Big Sean all continue to build solid momentum. Katy Perry’s “Roar” (Capitol) and Ariana Grande “Baby I” (Republic) will debut.

ALTERNATIVE
It’s the dog days of August, so there isn’t much to report in terms of chart changes for Modern Rock. Lava/Republic’s Lorde will stay at #1 for a second week with “Royals.” Kings of Leon is next up to go Top 10 with “Supersoaker” (RCA). Cage The Elephant’s “Come a Little Closer” (also RCA), in its first week, will enter the Top 20. Thirty Seconds to Mars’ “City of Angels” (Virgin) is having a 100-plus spin-gain week and quickly approaches Top 20. Republic’s Naked & Famous is having a nice week with “Hearts Like Ours” and legendary rockers (and fellow Republic act) AFI will have a strong debut with their “17 Crimes.”
