Drake has hit the top of the U.K.’s Official Albums and Singles Charts with Dark Lane Demo Tapes (Island) on 20,000 combined sales and “Toosie Slide” climbing to #1 from #4. It’s the third time he’s topped both charts simultaneously.
Dark Lane Demo Tapes charted mostly on streams, which counted for 95% of its overall sales. “Toosie Slide” racked up 49,000 chart sales and is the third Top 20 singles entry for Drake today. His “Chicago Freestyle” f/Giveon lands at #10 and “Pain 1993” f/Playboi Carter enters at #17.
Drake is the third artist to pull off the chart double in 2020, following Stormzy and Eminem, but is only the 10th act in U.K. chart history to achieve the feat at least three times across separate releases in their career. The other nine are: Ed Sheeran, Rihanna, Madonna, Queen, Cliff Richard, ABBA, Elvis Presley, The Beatles and The Rolling Stones.
Elsewhere on albums, The Strokes are back in the Top 5 with The New Abnormal (RCA) rocketing 82 places to #4 following its release on vinyl.
