British artist Zoobs Ansari has created a series of portraits of Cher that will be offered for sale in support of the charity Free the Wild, which Cher co-founded with Mark and Gina Nelthorpe-Cowne. The collection includes 11 unique multimedia portraits of Cher that were inspired by her sold out 02 Arena concerts in London last October, part of her Here We Go Again tour.

A selection of these portraits will be included at Ansari’s forthcoming solo exhibition Insanity Fair at Elephant West gallery from 3/13–4/9. All of the proceeds will be donated to Free the Wild.

“Capturing the magic of Cher’s incredible talent on stage photographically, with a view to raise awareness and funds for the important work of Free the Wild, has been a great honor,” commented Zoobs.

“I co-founded Free The Wild with my friends Mark and Gina because of our common goal to help better the lives of animals in captivity. When Zoobs learned about FTW, he jumped in with an idea to raise funds. I am so touched by his very generous donation of original artwork,” said Cher.

Cher, a longtime animal rights advocate, was inspired to become actively involved in the cause by the plight of Billy the elephant in the Los Angeles Zoo and Kavaan, the elephant in the Islamabad Zoo in Pakistan. Zoobs had also become an activist after seeing Kavaan as a child living in Islamabad in the 80’s. Kavaan had been kept on a 10-foot chain for over three decades.

Through the efforts of Free the Wild, they were able to have Kavaan released from his chains, have his shelter reinstated, provide substantial water in a pool for him and help improve his mental health. Free The Wild is continuing their efforts to ultimately place Kavaan in an elephant sanctuary, along with other commitments to improve the life of animals around the globe.
