SONY MUSIC U.K. REVIVES MUSIC FOR NATIONS; JULIE WEIR NAMED HEAD
4/4/16

Jason Iley’s Sony Music U.K. has tapped respected British rock music exec Julie Weir to head up the newly revived rock and metal label Music for Nations. Weir is known for the success of her own independent imprint Visible Noise and management firm Wiseblood, where she signed and developed acts including Bring Me the Horizon.

Weir has worked closely with Sony for a while: BMTH signed to RCA prior to the release of their third album, and she helped the label break Nothing but Thieves. During her two-decade-plus career, Weir has also worked with Cradle of Filth and Bullet for My Valentine.

After laying dormant for more than a decade, Music for Nations is being revived as a permanent frontline label within Sony Music U.K., and will be signing new rock and metal talent, which Weir will oversee alongside Label Manager Joel De’ath. De’ath is also currently working on a reissue campaign with the label’s catalog, which includes music from Slayer, Megadeth, Poison and Metallica.

Said COO Nicola Tuer: “Julie’s extensive knowledge in the field of rock and metal is second to none. Ally her skills with the legendary reputation of the Music for Nations label as well as the enduring popularity of these genres, and the revival of MFN is a truly exciting prospect. There is also no one more capable than Julie to lead the way on its relaunch”.

Having spent my first 21 industry years in the independent world, I am very excited to be moving into a new chapter with such an iconic label that has launched many a rock career,” Weir commented. “This is an outstanding opportunity to work with an exceptional team of people who not only understand the business, but are also open to expanding in different directions, whilst still prioritising the development of the artist. I can’t wait to get started.”
