ADVICE FOR ARTISTS IN THE AGE OF SOCIAL DISTANCING

L.A.-based songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist Barrett Yeretsian has offered some sage wisdom in an essay he wrote for ASCAP's site, outlining his tips for handling confinement during this challenging time.

Yeretsian is best known for “Jar of Hearts,” the #1 single he co-penned and produced for Christina Perri, and compositions for and with Jenn Bostic, Andy Grammer, Daniel Powter, Pentatonix, Rachel Platten, Juliette Simms and Diane Birch.

Yeretsian opines that "as artists, we can view this pandemic as a disaster or we can re-frame it as an unprecedented opportunity. We can perceive the fact that we have to stay home as a cage, or as an opportunity to do many of the things that we’ve wanted to (and needed to) do all along."

"You might not have control over how long this pandemic lasts," he continues, "but here’s a partial list of the many things that are directly within your control: Your mindset. What you focus on. Your commitment to your dream. How much you create."

He then outlines five ways to come out of this pandemic better, stronger and ready to take on the world: create prolifically, skill up, build your social media presence, get moving, and take care of yourself. The main takeaway: focus on what you can control, your music.
