The Top 5 Highest-Grossing Films in America Over the Weekend

Eight of the Top 10 films at the domestic box office were sequels this weekend, according to BoxOfficeMojo. In fact, two of those—Sony's The Equalizer 2 and Universal's Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again!—debuted in the top spots, bowing with $36m and $34m, respectively. Both outperformed their predecessors.
