During Amazon's sale-intensive Prime Day, the top-selling voice-activated Echo device, priced at $89.99, became the top-selling item in the U.S. Meanwhile, the e-tail giant offered four months of its streaming-music service for 99 cents.
Without giving actual numbers, Tech Crunch reported that Amazon sold more than twice as many Echo devices in the U.S. as it did on Prime Day 2016, and more than three times as many worldwide.
How will the escalating popularity of the Echo and the steeply discounted service affect Amazon's marketshare in the streaming sweepstakes, which has grown significantly of late? Stay tuned.
