NYC SWOONS FOR TUNES IN JUNE
In its latest attempt to prove its music-friendliness—an enticement to attract the Grammy Awards, perhaps?—New York City has declared June as New York Music Month.
The city will be offering 2,000+ hours of free rehearsal space for NYC-based musicians, a one-day conference at NYU to explore venue preservation, technical innovations and other related subjects, free walking tours of historic music sites, and an online toolkit to help musicians with their business activities.
As is the case every summer, there will be outdoor concerts, many of them free, that will be promoted under the Music Month umbrella. The annual SummerStage just announced its lineup; Make Music New York will have its 11th daylong festival on 6/21.
“In naming June 2017 as New York Music Month, we celebrate all the contributions our city’s music creators have made here, and encourage New Yorkers to experience all that our music community has to offer,” said Mayor Bill de Blasio, who announced the project with Entertainment Commissioner Julie Menin and NY Is Music co-founder Justin Kalifowitz.
The conference, SoundDevelopment, will be held 6/1. Speakers include Downtown Music Publishing Founder/CEO Justin Kalifowitz and Communion Music co-founder Ben Lovett.
Trump Tower will be further cordoned off to block anything pleasant, melodic or culturally significant from entering the president's lair.
