YOUR WEEKEND BOX OFFICE

The Top 5 Highest-Grossing Films in America Over the Weekend

Valentine's Day is quickly approaching, which is made apparent by the fact that two horror films are the highest grossing movies in America right now. Paramount's Rings was the only movie to debut in the Top 5 at the box office this weekend, landing at #2. Universal's Split, meanwhile, continues its reign at #1 for a third week.

1. Split (Universal) $15m 3,373/$4,324 avg. (week 3)
2. Rings (Paramount) $13m 2,931/$4,435 avg. (debut)
3. A Dog's Purpose (Universal) $11m 3,178/$3,406 avg. (week 2)
4. Hidden Figures (Fox) $10m 3,401/$2,970 avg. (week 7)
5. La La Land (Lionsgate) $7.5m 3,236/$2,302 avg. (week 9)

It's also worth noting that Weinstein's critically acclaimed (and Oscar-nominated) Lion tacked on 830 theaters this week, bringing its total to 1,405, as it jumped #14-8 with just north of $4m.
