RCA GROOVES WITH BAZ ON GET DOWN

RCA Records is partnering with Baz Luhrmann’s label, House of Iona, to release The Get Down: Original Soundtrack From The Netflix Original Series via Apple Music on 8/12. Luhrmann’s series, set in the rap scene of the late 1970s in the Bronx, premieres on Netflix the same day.

Executive produced by Luhrmann and Nas, the soundtrack will feature music by the show’s cast as well as tracks by Nas, Miguel, Christina Aguilera, Zayn, Michael Kiwanuka, Leon Bridges, Jaden Smith, Raury and others. Producer/songwriters Malay and Emile Haynie collaborated on the soundtrack, which has contributions from Elliott Wheeler, Grandmaster Flash and Nile Rodgers.

“While our production is a musical that embodies many classic hits, we also use contemporary sounds and techniques connecting the dots between then and now,” says Luhrmann, whose music-driven works include The Great Gatsby and Moulin Rouge. “My great privilege is to have associated with such a diverse musical community.”

To whet the appetite for viewers, Luhrmann and series’ supervising producer Nelson George have done some crate digging to create some Apple Music playlists reflective of the time—R&B 1977-1979, Disco 1977-1979, Night At Les Inferno and Night at Hijos Boricuas. Technics 1200s, gold chains and white suits not included.
