The Coens, Clooney and Caesar

YOUR SUPER BOWL WEEKEND BOX OFFICE

Kung Fu Panda 3 remained the highest grossing movie at the domestic box office for a second week with $21m. The biggest bow of Super Bowl weekend belonged to Coen brothers comedy Hail, Caesar!—although its $11m opening was pretty underwhelming considering the stature of the filmmakers and its all-star ensemble cast. Caesar! earned a 79% at Rotten Tomatoes and a C- CinemaScore.

Rounding out the Top 5, Nicholas Sparks adaptation The Choice proved to be the second biggest debut. The romantic drama—which scored a miserable 8% at Rotten Tomatoes—was immediately followed by another new release: Sony/Columbia's Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. The latter also garnered lukewarm reviews and (with $5.2m) did not come close to its $28m budget.

As for a Star Wars update, the latest edition of the franchise has become the first film ever to pass the $800m mark domestically. It, in fact, surpassed the $900m mark. Worldwide, The Force Awakens' total is currently just north of $2b.
