COLUMBIA GETS MORMILE FOR ITS MONEY

Now it’s official: DJ Mormile has joined Columbia Records as SVP of A&R, reporting to President of A&R Mark Williams.

“Great A&R skills require an understanding of the diversity of artists breaking through today, and the ability to work the edges and develop talent from a variety of sources,” Williams proclaimed. “DJ brings those perspectives and more to Columbia’s A&R team. His depth of experience in A&R, management, and other creative endeavors will be invaluable in helping Columbia secure new opportunities that lie ahead.”

“We are thrilled to have DJ on board,” added Columbia Chairman Rob Stringer. “He brings an exciting new dimension to Columbia and a wealth of experience too.”

Mormile was previously Interscope’s Urban A&R chief; in that capacity he worked with Eminem, Kendrick Lamar, 50 Cent, The Black Eyed Peas, Fergie, Nelly Furtado, Timbaland and others. He also runs Fakework Management with a roster of artists that includes producer/songwriter Mike Will Made It and breakout hip hop duo Rae Sremmurd. The Staten Island native started at the label in 1997 while still a student at Boston College.

For his part, Mormile expressed excitement about his new label, noting, “I feel this is a unique time to work with Rob and Mark to build upon the label's legacy and create the next generation of artists that move and shape culture.”
