BEATS 1 THRU 5?

Apple Music streaming licenses allow for more Beats Radio stations, report says

Some interesting chatter out of The Verge about the most exalted part of Apple Music since the June 30 launch—its 24/7 radio station Beats 1.

It turns out the licensing deals Apple struck with the labels allow for an immediate expansion of the radio component, with licenses for up to five additional stations like Beats 1 with no renegotiation. But before you get bent outta shape, Ms. Swift, know the report also stated that the royalty rate Beats 1 currently pays is "better than Pandora."

The report also quoted sources as saying labels are "pretty pleased" with Apple Music's performance, but are looking to October when the free three-month trial period expires. Until free accounts are converted to paying subscriptions, accurate customer demand can't be determined.

Beats 1 is only live 12 hours a day between the shifts of Zane Lowe, Julie Adenuga and Ebro Darden, with the remainder of programming being reruns of specialty shows from the spectacular artist lineup they've assembled, including Drake, Pharrell, Dr. Dre, Elton John, St. Vincent, Q-Tip and Jamie xx.

With an expansion, Apple could potentially go live 24 hours a day, launch additional Beats stations around the world with DJs in other countries or launch stations with a specific focus. We can't wait to hear what comes next.
