YOUR WEEKEND BOX OFFICE

Furious 7 Makes the Box Office Its Bitch

Talk about fast and furious. Universal's Furious 7 celebrates a massive first weekend, earning $144m domestically and breaking Captain America: The Winter Soldier's previous $95m record for the month of April. It's the highest-grossing opening weekend for the franchise and the ninth-biggest opening of all time. Worldwide, it raked in a whopping $384m.

1. Furious 7 (Universal) $144m 4,004/$35,870 avg. (debut)
2. Home (Fox) $27m 3,801/$7,209 avg. (week 2)
3. Get Hard (Warner Bros.) $13m 3,212/$4,024 avg. (week 2)
4. Cinderella (Buena Vista) $10m 3,404/$3,023 avg. (week 4)
5. The Divergent Series: Insurgent (Lionsgate) $10m 3,442/$2,905 avg. (week 3)

Just outside the Top 5 at #7, Weinstein's The Woman in Gold overcomes lukewarm reviews to earn a very respectable $7,767 average across just 258 theaters. The film stars Helen Mirren as the late Maria Altmann, a Jewish WWII survivor who sued the Austrian government in an attempt to get back a family portrait that was seized by Nazis.
