JAY Z: TIDAL IS A
“HOLISTIC” SERVICE

Jay Z provided some details on Tidal Wednesday during a Q&A with students at NYU's Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music. "This isn't just about music; it's also about concert ticketing," he revealed. "It's a holistic place where the artists will live in. You may be able to download a song for free, but you're not getting into concerts for free. There are different things that we offer. It's not just songs—we're offering value." Jay also claimed that Tidal is paying artists a higher royalty rate than any established streaming service.

As for pricing, he offered, "If you have a $10 pair of headphones, you should probably buy the $9.99 plan," he said. "If you're like [Tidal exec Vania Schlogel and her] artist friends and you deck your whole house out with hi-fi, then you probably want the hi-fi plan." In terms of perceived value, he noted that “Someone's changed our mindset to believe that that bottle of water is worth $6."
