UPDATE: An iTunes spokesperson has officially denied the below report; stand by for further updates.
Sources close to the situation say that iTunes is in the process of acquiring Scott Borchetta’s Big Machine in a deal valued at $250 million.
Big Machine’s deal with UMG is up now, and the jewel in the Nashville label’s crown, megastar Taylor Swift, owes one more album on her current deal. The deal allegedly being worked out would include Swift’s catalog and the next album.
Swift’s decision to pull her music from free streaming services due to paltry royalties proved a major headache for streaming leader Spotify last year; Apple’s Beats Music is said to be rolling out a retooled version of its subscription service by June.
