a summery iTunes Top 10

IT’S GETTING HOT IN HERRE

With new singles in play from bona fide superstars both iconic and freshly minted, it’s beginning to feel like the music biz equivalent of the film industry’s blockbuster summer season is underway. A glance at the iTunes Store this morning reveals that Katy Perry’s brand-spankin’-new, Snoop Dogg-assisted “California Gurls” has shimmied to the top of the singles chart, while Eminem’s “Not Afraid,” which started the week at #1, is holding strong in the third slot. In between is “OMG,” the latest from the heat-seeking missile that is Usher, with will.i.am riding shotgun. Rookie phenom (and HITS cover boy) B.o.B, the Glee Cast (covering Rick Springfield, no less) and mainstay Lady Gaga are in the next three positions, while Ke$ha, another potent newcomer, shows up twice, guesting on 3OH3’s “My First Kiss” (#6) and coming with her own latest single, “Your Love Is My Drug” (#7). The masterful Jay-Z and a third rook, Taio Cruz, round out a barbecue-ready Top 10. (5/12a)
