Amazon Adds Amie

AMAZON NABS AMIE: Amazon.com, looking to expand its music download marketshare against leader iTunes, has acquired online retailer AmieStreet.com, which it first invested in four years ago. The Long Island City, N.Y.-based company allows users to buy songs for free, then charges increasing amounts based on popularity. Starting Sept. 22, all visitors to the site will be forwarded to Amazon.com. Amie Street will now turns its attention to developing Songza.com, an Internet radio service that lets people build playlists and share them with friends.
