Hickenlooper Passes

GEORGE HICKENLOOPER, 47, a film director whose works include the Emmy-award winning documentary Hearts of Darkness: A Filmmaker’s Apocalypse, and The Mayor of Sunset Strip, a doc about legendary L.A. d.j. Rodney Bingenheimer, died Saturday in Denver, while visiting his cousin, the city’s mayor John Hickenlooper, who is running for governor of Colorado. Hickenlooper’s latest film, Casino Jack, starring Kevin Spacey as lobbyist Jack Abramoff, comes out later this year. Hickenlooper’s other movies include Factory Girl, with Sienna Miller as Andy Warhol superstar Edie Sedgwick, and The Man From Elysian Fields, a movie that co-starred Mick Jagger. His 1994 short, Some Folks Call It a Sling Blade, written by and starring Billy Bob Thornton, was later turned into the feature film, Sling Blade, earning Thornton, who directed, a Best Adapted Screenplay Oscar. Hickenlooper is survived by his wife, Suzanne, and a son, Charles. (11/1a)
