Beatles Get Physical after Digital

LET’S GET META-PHYSICAL: How did the Beatles’ recent debut on iTunes affect sales of the Fab Four’s remastered physical albums, which came out last year on 9/9/09? In the week ending 11/28, which includes Black Friday, the Lovable Moptops’ titles sold nearly 40k physical CDs, a 65% jump over the previous week, compared to a 22% rise in overall catalog sales, beating the physical market by 43%. While some of this is due to increased shopping traffic, the bulk of it has to be the direct result of Apple’s ubiquitous ad campaign after its licensing of the band's digital catalog. (12/3p)
