YouTube hits 1 billion

THE WHOLE WORLD IS WATCHING: YouTube said on its blog that it has hit the 1 billion-viewer milestone in terms of unique users visiting the site each month. Put another way, that’s one of out of every two people online. The video giant was feeling boastful in announcing the news, spinning, “If YouTube were a country, we’d be the third largest in the world after China and India. PSY and Madonna would have to repeat their Madison Square Garden performance in front of a packed house 200,000 more times. That’s a lot of Gangnam Style!” Cute. YouTube, which launched in 2005, becomes the second site to pass the 1 billion mark; Facebook entered this rarefied territory last September. (3/22a)
