Yeezus listening party

HEAR YE: "Yeezus is full of rattling 808s, electro clatter, waves of fuzz and heart-racing BPMs," declared Rolling Stone's Matthew Trammell, who attended an intimate listening party for Kanye West's hugely anticipated new Def Jam/IDJ album at New York's Milk Studios on Monday night. Ye was joined by the likes of Jay-Z, Beyonce, Busta Rhymes, Q-Tip, Timbaland and assorted sports stars, hipsters and beautiful people, and before playing the album said (with trademark humility) that it marked "an entire new mentality about how to make music." Entertainment Weekly's Leah Greenblatt, who was also there, blogged that listening to the album "felt like something between lying directly beneath a jet path and getting into a slap bet with Godzilla — and mostly, it was glorious." Trammell, who notes the participation of guests like Daft Punk, RZA, Chief Keef, Hudson Mohawke and other sonic innovators (including Rick Rubin, who added some 11th-hour production), offers a track-by-track assessment here.
