Cumulus story

BIG CHANGES AT CUMULUS: Rumors swirling around the radio world have Cumulus SVP of Programming Jan Jeffries, longtime Top 40 and Hot AC lord, suddenly losing his power at the company. While Jeffries' status is uncertain at the moment, word is that chain CEO Lew Dickey and his COO brother, John, will assume control of Top 40 while Mike McVay will take over the Hot AC side. Meanwhile, John Kilgo, the longtime buffer at Cumulus between Jeffries and the labels (and a former indie and label promotion exec), is now the gateway to the Dickeys, who have final word on all Pop decision-making. We also hear that forays by Clear Channel and CBS into artist-supported platforms influenced the company's decision to pursue similar initiatives at Top 40, having first tested them out at their Country stations. Stand by for updates. (6/13p)
