Lauryn's out

RELEASED AND RELEASING: Lauryn Hill was released from federal prison in Connecticut today after serving a tax-invasion sentence ... and dropped a new single. The soul/hip-hop artist pleaded guilty last year to tax evasion; she reportedly failed to pay more than $1.5m in taxes between 2005 and 2007 and was sentenced this summer to a three-month prison term. She'll now enter a home-confinement phase of the same duration in South Orange, NJ. Hill, a Grammy winner and former member of the Fugees, publicly announced her departure from the music business, but released a single at the time of her sentence—and has now come out with another, "Consumerism."
