Poneman to be honored by NARM

INDIE AVATAR TO GET HIS DUE: The org formerly known as NARM and its conjoined twin digitalmusic.org, will present this year’s Independent Spirit Award to Sub Pop co-founder Jonathan Poneman on the heels of the seminal indie-rock label’s 25th anniversary. The award will be presented on 5/7 during the Opening Session of Music Biz 2014 at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza Hotel in beautiful downtown Century City. Said Music Biz topper Jim Donio, who’s never at a loss for words: “Jonathan Poneman is responsible for one of the industry’s most important success stories in the last several decades, as Sub Pop remains a shining example of an organization that can consistently showcase quality art as well as commercial success.” Poneman acknowledged that “we’ve been both challenged and rewarded by the developments in technology and the Internet since our formation, and it’s a tremendous feeling to be recognized by Music Biz for still making amazing independent music.” (2/5p)
