Top 10 tracks

TOP 10 TRACKS: Nobody’s better at cultivating earworms these days than Pharrell Williams, whose latest smash, “Happy,” is hitting critical mass with a deafening clang—no wonder Columbia was so eager to strike while the iron was molten with G I R L (see 2/19 item). Another sizable week-over-week gain of 31% brings the track past 1m, nearly a third of it accrued in the most recent sales week. At this rate, it won’t be long before “Happy” joins the exclusive 3m club, joining three fellow Top 10 occupants Katy Perry’s “Dark Horse” (Capitol), Passenger’s “Let Her Go” (Nettwerk) and Pitbull/Ke$ha’s “Timber” (RCA), with A Great Big World/Xtina’s “Say Something” less than 100k away. Columbia has yet another exploding record in John Legend’s musical Valentine “All of Me” (+46%, 11-4), while Beyonce/Jay Z’s “Drunk in Love” (109k, +12%) is knocking on the door at #12. When yer hot, yer hot. Speaking of which, Virgin’s Bastille has just cracked the Top 5 with the Modern Rock crossover hit “Pompeii” (+11%), a track that has become as ubiquitous as Pharrell’s.

2. Katy Perry f/Juicy J, “Dark Horse” – 277k

4. John Legend, “All of Me” – 164k
5. Bastille, “Pompeii” – 146k
6. A Great Big World f/Xtina, “Say Something” – 145k
7. Passenger, “Let Her Go” – 132k

Another animated feature has powered a track into the fast lane, just as Frozen did for Idina Menzel’s “Let It Go.” The latest beneficiary is the Canadian sibling duo Tegan and Sara, whose resolutely ebullient “Everything Is AWESOME!!!” a collab with Andy Samberg’s The Lonely Island, catapults out of The LEGO Movie to a #18 debut with 69k. Btw, it’s one of four versions of the song on the soundtrack, from Time Warner’s WaterTower Music. (2/20a)
