Frontline maktshare

YOUR WEEKLY MARKETSHARE SCORECARD: There’s been a shake-up in the frontline pecking order, as Republic, which spent in inordinate amount of time on top last year, makes a cavalry charge back to the summit, the lead horses being #4 Kid Kudi’s “surprise” release (86k), #11 Lorde (30k) and #12 St. Vincent (23k). That adds up to 139k, a few hundred more units than TDE/Interscope’s chart-topping debut from Schoolboy Q. But it’s necessary to go deeper in order to understand how Monte’s merry men pulled off the win—deeper than perennial Top 50 entries Florida Georgia Line and Drake, while newcomers Phantogram continue to establish a beachhead. Nope, we have to follow the long tail, and that’s longer than the space or time we have for this item. Suffice to say that volume speaks louder than words. It was also an impressive week for second-place CMG and its eclectic assortment of #5 Beck, #13 Katy Perry, #28 Celtic Woman and #44 Bastille, collectively tallying 120k. (3/5p)
