YOUR RED, WHITE & BLUE WEEKEND BOX OFFICE: Michael Bay’s Transformers: Age of Extinction followed 2014’s biggest opening with a strong enough showing to keep the July 4 weekend’s two top debuts—the Melissa McCarthy-Susan Sarandon pairing Tammy and horror flick Deliver Us From Evil—out of first place. Just below, 22 Jump Street and How to Train Your Dragon 2 did well enough to ensure extended summer runs a month after their respective releases. But everything's relative, and according to Box Office Mojo, this was the worst Independence Day weekend since 1999.

1. Transformers: Age… (Paramount) – $36.4m (-64%), 4,233/$8,599 avg. (week 2)
2. Tammy (WB) – $21.2m, 3,465/$6,110 avg. (debut)
3. Deliver Us From Evil (Screen Gems) – $9.5m, $3,324 avg. (debut)
4. 22 Jump Street (Sony) – $8.8m (-40.7%), 3,049/$2,828 avg. (week 4)
5. How to Train Your Dragon 2 (Fox) – $8.3m (-33.9%), 3,297/$2,654 avg. (week 4)

In limited release, John Carney’s music-biz romance Begin Again (Weinstein) earned $1.32 million, averaging a robust $7,520 in 175 theaters after opening on five screens last weekend. (7/7a)
