DOWNLOAD THIS: She’s not only musically gifted, she’s a master at self-marketing—so it was preordained as soon as Taylor Swift greeted her fans and revealed the deets of 1989 yesterday (see below) that lead single “Shake It Off” would zoom straight to the top of the iTunes chart, at least temporarily displacing Meghan Trainor’s now-massive “All About That Bass.” The only relative surprises among the debuting tracks on this changeover Tuesday is the appearance of a new Counting Crows cut from the band’s first LP on Capitol. The album leaderboard, meanwhile, it graced by the presence of Tony Bennett (in tandem with Lady Gaga) and Smokey Robinson (who’s on Verve). Various artists (again, see below) continue to be well represented, with a posse of country acts covering Motley Crue (courtesy of Taylor’s label Big Machine) sliding in, Now 51 slipping out and Disney’s double shot of soundtrack magic holding steady.
