Super Bartels

DEF-INING MOMENT: Have you assayed the gallery of music-biz superheroes—courtesy of our absurdly overqualified in-house illustrator, Van Arno—from our recently published 28th Anniversary Issue? Well, here's another comic-book crusader, namely Def Jam chief Steve Bartels (click the image to enlarge it). Steve is currently celebrating the radio dominance and retail resilience of artists Iggy Azalea and Jeremih. He's also looking forward to Def Jam's 30th Anniversary Concert, which takes over at Brooklyn's Barclays Center on 10/16 and will feature performances by Rick Ross, 2 Chainz, DMX, Jhene Aiko, Method Man, Jeremih, Ja Rule and more. He's promised to wear his spandex superhero costume that night. (10/10a)
