STEVE GREENBERG NAMED COLUMBIA RECORDS PRESIDENT

Respcted A&R Guy and Indie Label Entrepreneur Makes the Jump to Major Label-dom
It’s now official. Steve Greenberg has been named President of Columbia Records by Columbia Records Group Chairman Will Botwin, to whom he reports. Greenberg will work closely with Botwin in overseeing Columbia’s A&R activities and in developing strategies to further expand the label’s presence in the marketplace.

Said Botwin, announcing the appointment in a Wednesday morning press release: “Steve's extraordinarily successful track records in A&R and artist development, combined with his considerable business acumen, will make him a key asset as we continue to build Columbia’s roster. I’m thrilled that Steve is joining the Columbia team to help make the best records possible, and establish the next generation of Columbia artists.”

Sony Music Label Group U.S. President/CEO Don Ienner had this to say about Greenberg: “Steve has drive, passion, and determination, he’s a true music man and he knows just about every aspect of the business. His skills and abilities are a perfect complement to those of Will Botwin. With Steve in place, Will and the Columbia team will be absolutely unbeatable.”

Greenberg comes to Columbia from S-Curve Records, which he founded in 2000; he was the label’s President/CEO. During his five years at S-Curve, he played a key role in the emergence of Fountains of Wayne and Joss Stone. Greenberg received a Grammy nomination in the Best Pop Vocal Album category for co-producing Stone’s Mind, Body and Soul, one of three the album picked up. S-Curve’s first hit was the Baha Men’sWho Let The Dogs Out?”

Before S-Curve, Greenberg was Mercury head of A&R, where he was responsible for Hanson’s 12 million-selling debut album, Middle of Nowhere. He broke into the business with the Warner Bros. family after a stint as a journalist.
