LORD RINGS UP BIG
MTV AWARDS WIN

Will Smith, Nicole Kidman Nab
Best Acting Honors

Eminem did what he could to upstage Kelly Osbourne’s coming-out party, but nothing could spoil the evening for the likes of Will Smith, Nicole Kidman, Mandy Moore or Orlando Bloom, for that matter.

Those were the big winners at MTV’s 11th annual Movie Awards, which were taped last Saturday night (6/1) for airing Thursday (6/6) evening at L.A.’s Shrine Auditorium, where the six-times-nominated Lord of the Rings copped Best Movie.

Don’t blame us for spoiling the surprise; it sure looked like the winners knew of their victories.

Smith earned the Golden Popcorn for Best Male Performance for Ali, while Kidman earned Best Female Performance for Moulin Rouge and Best Musical Sequence with Ewan McGregor. Moore earned Breakthrough Female honors for A Walk to Remember, while Rings’ Bloom nabbed Breakthrough Male.

Denzel Washington was named Favorite Villain for playing a bad cop in Training Day, while Best Fight Sequence went to to Rush Hour 2’s Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker. Reese Witherspoon earned Best Comedic Performance honors for her role in Legally Blonde, while Paul Walker and Vin Diesel won Best On-Screen Team for The Fast and the Furious. Best Kiss went to Seann William Scott’s same-sex smooch with Jason Biggs in American Pie 2, while Memento’s Christopher Nolan took home Best New Filmmaker honors. Pearl Harbor won for Best Action Sequence.

The show’s hosts, Jack Black and Sarah Michelle Gellar, starred in Executive Producer Joel Gallen’s parodies of Spider-Man and Lord of the Rings, the latter featuring Black at the Fellowship summit, showing off the titular ring, now attached as a piercing, unh, below his belt.

The White Stripes performed "Fell In Love With a Girl," while the audience got to its feet when an Eminem body double flew in as Batman’s sidekick Robin, changing in an onstage phone booth to reveal the real Em, who performed a mesmerizing "Without Me." A pink-and-black-haired Kelly Osbourne sassily crooned "Papa Don’t Preach," her jean jacket sporting a lollipop and the admonition, "Suck This!"

Take that, Oscar.
