"BREATHE" TOPS AT BMI AWARDS
Faith Hill’s hit "Breathe," songwriter Cory Rooney and EMI Music Publishing were among those honored Tuesday night (5/15) by BMI at its 49th annual Pop Awards ceremony.
The black-tie event, which was held at the Regent Beverly Wilshire in Beverly Hills, fetes the year's most-performed BMI songs.
"Breathe," performed by Hill, written by Stephanie Bentley and Holly Lamar and published Hopechest Music and Universal-Songs of PolyGram International, was named BMI Pop Song of the Year.
Rooney was named BMI Pop Songwriter of the year for penning three songs featuring the word "to"—"Bring It All To Me," "I Need To Know" and "You Sang To Me."
"There are other keys to good songwriting—a memorable melody, lyrics that touch the soul," Rooney said. "But finding a good preposition and sticking with it, that shouldn’t be overlooked."
EMI was named publisher of the year for a fourth consecutive year.
