LOSSES NARROW FOR BORDERS

Pick Your Poison: Sales Up 55% Compared To Last Year, But Down Compared To Last Quarter
Online efforts of top book and music retailers Borders and Barnes & Noble are still leading to losses for both, but Borders saw its online losses narrow for the quarter.

The number-two U.S. bookseller behind Barnes & Noble, Borders reported this week e-commerce sales through its Borders.com division increased 55% to $5.1 million compared to the second quarter a year ago, but sales decreased $200,000 from the previous quarter.

Borders.com losses, compared to the previous quarter, fell $400,000 to $4.2 million. Since the company cut its losses more than it lost in sales, it came out ahead of the previous quarter.
