America Online announced the launch of AOL Plus, which offers an enhanced, rich media content experience, including full-motion video and streaming audio. Any AOL member using AOL 5.0 software over a broadband connection can automatically download AOL Plus.
“AOL Plus lets us give our members the best of both worlds. It enhances the AOL experience,” said AOL Interctive Services President Barry Schuler. “With AOL Plus, we are delivering on our promise of ‘AOL Anywhere,’ offering our members the kind of great content, features and functionality they’re used to no matter how they connect to the AOL service.”
At launch, AOL Plus will provide rich content such as streaming sports highlights from CBS Sportsline, live concert Webcasts from House of Blues, on-demand music videos from Launch.com, full-motion travel video from Travelocity.com and dynamic mapping images from Weather.com, as well as movie trailers and CD-quality music from AOL brands MovieFone and Spinner.
In related news, EMusic.com has partnered with three AOL brands, making the site’s 90,000 downloadable MP3 music files available to the users of ICQ, Winamp and Spinner.com.
“As a premier partner of America Online’s Interactive Properties Group, we are working together to bring the benefits and convenience of downloadable music to millions of people,” said EMusic.com President and CEO Gene Hoffman.
