NAPSTER POACHES A VP FROM UMG

Napster, Like The Mob, Knows That You Keep Your Friends Close And Your Enemies Closer
File-sharing service Napster, currently embroiled in litigation with the RIAA, announced Wednesday that it hired Keith "We Don't Need No Water Let The Muthaf**ka" Bernstein, a former senior director of operations at Universal Music Group's Global "e" division. Ironically, Global-E was Napster founder shawn fanning',390,400);">shawn fanning',390,400);">Shawn Fanning's DJ name in high school

Bernstein will be Napster's VP of operations and will report Napster CEO Milton "Bradley" Olin.

"Napster is at the center of the digital music revolution, and it can bring great benefits to artists and the industry," said Bernstein, who claimed that he was being treated well by his captors and showed now signs of physical duress.

Bernstein's defection… er… appointment comes one day before the RIAA is to respond to documents filed by Napster. Last week, lawyers for Napster contended that its users are not violating copyrights by sharing files for noncommercial use, citing, among other things, the Audio Home Recording Act of 1992 and a particularly compelling episode of "Scooby Doo" from 1970.

RIAA lawyers are expected to claim that the AHRA has no applicability to Napster.

A hearing for the case is set for July 26 in the U.S. District Court in San Francisco.
