CHRIS TOMLIN SEES THE LIGHTS

Hollywood Undead, Black Veil Brides, Dropkick Murphys Bow in Top 10
Who’s Chris Tomlin? He’s a Contemporary Christian artist, singer/songwriter and “worship leader” at “Passion Events” from Grand Saline, TX, signed to EMI label sixstepsrecords who has been releasing albums since 1995.

His 12th and latest, Burning Lights, tops the HITS sales chart this week with nearly 70k, his best debut since Hello Love bowed at #9 back in 2008.

From the sublime to, well, A&M/Octone’s Hollywood Undead, whose Notes From the Underground enters at #2 with 55k. It’s the L.A. rap-rockers’ third album and highest chart debut to date after 2011’s American Tragedy peaked at #4.

Republic’s Les Miserables soundtrack drops from #1-3, with another 52k for a total north of 320k in four weeks, followed by Big Machine’s Taylor Swift (#4, now over 3.2 mllion) and Lava/Republic’s Black Veil Brides, who enter at #5 in their first week on the chart, giving Monte Lipman’s label two of the Top 5.

The new, self-released Dropkick Murphys’ album, Signed & Sealed in Blood, debuts at #8, with UMe’s Pitch Perfect soundtrack (#6), Atlantic’s Bruno Mars (#7), Dualtone’s sizzling The Lumineers (#9) and Syco/Columbia’s One Direction (#10) completing the leaderboard.

Other Top 50 newcomers include Capitol’s Conor Maynard (#31), while Interscope’s Chief Keef (#49) and XO/Republic’s The Weeknd (#44) both re-enter.

RCA’s Kelly Clarkson Greatest Hits—Chapter 1 is the week’s biggest double-digit gainer, going #35-20, +13%. Other movers include XL/Columbia’s Golden Globe-winning Adele (#19-16), Republic Nashville’s Florida Georgia Line (#25-21), Capitol Nashville’s Luke Bryan (#26-22) and Little Big Town (#30-25).

This week’s top releases include RCA’s A$AP Rocky and sensibility music’s The Civil Wars VH1 Unplugged, with UMG Nashville’s Gary Allan (1/22) and Island/IDJ’s Justin Bieber acoustic album (1/29) the next biggies to street.
