WHAT IT IS: Matoma wants to reinvent the album with his debut record, Hakuna Matoma, which is a dynamic album that he can add to over time. Beginning with eight tracks, the album will be expanded periodically, until Matoma feels it’s finished. His latest (and arguably biggest) track, “False Alarm,” was featured as a Radio 1 Track of the Day. Additionally, he was playlisted at Radio 1 for eight weeks, including three on the A List. Matoma—a 2016 Spotify Spotlight Artist with 8m regular monthly listeners—already announced a huge U.S. tour, which included sold-out dates in L.A., Seattle, Washington and more, and he’s due to announce the Party At Your Place worldwide headline tour with shows across the globe, including performances in key cities like London, Glasgow, Madrid, Barcelona, Hamburg, Milan and more. “His production skills, songs and his vision of what he called the ‘dynamic album’ was captivating. 400 million streams on, we’re still building the Matoma brand and we’ve had our first global hit with ‘False Alarm,’” says Parlophone boss Miles Leonard. “We’ll be looking to capitalize on his streaming fanbase in 2017.” Matoma is managed by Andrew Jackson.
