SUNSET FIRE UPDATE

The LAFD managed to control two blazes that broke out in the Hollywood Hills and Studio City Wednesday night, prompting residents in the hills and the adjacent San Fernando Valley to pack bags and gaze anxiously at the flames and smoke.

The biggest, in the Runyon Canyon area, was dubbed the Sunset fire. The house fire on Sunswept Drive in the foothills above Studio City threatened to spread but was extinguished by an estimated 50 firefighters.

According to the National Weather Service, critical fire weather will last through Friday for portions of L.A. and Ventura counties. Gusty winds and very dry conditions will continue to fuel fire starts as well as already-burning fires.
